Hydrochlorothiazide, Moexipril falls under ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs) — the group Rice Protein interacts with.

In laboratory research, hydrolyzed rice protein inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). In animal research, the inhibition of ACE is correlated with a reduction in systolic blood pressure. So far, this effect has not been shown in humans. Theoretically, concomitant use of rice protein and ACE inhibitors may increase the risk of blood pressure becoming too low. Use with caution. ACE inhibitors include benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik).

Your Uniretic combines moexipril, an ACE inhibitor that relaxes blood vessels, with hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill. Here's the interesting part: in test tube and animal studies, certain broken-down (hydrolyzed) rice proteins seem to block that same ACE enzyme, which can nudge blood pressure down a bit more. Since your medicine already works to lower pressure, the theory is that stacking the two could push your blood pressure too low.

I want to be honest with you though, this has only been seen in lab and animal research, not in people. A scoop of rice protein in a smoothie is very unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you notice dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint when standing, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
