Hydrochlorothiazide, Lisinopril falls under ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs) — the group Rice Protein interacts with.

In laboratory research, hydrolyzed rice protein inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). In animal research, the inhibition of ACE is correlated with a reduction in systolic blood pressure. So far, this effect has not been shown in humans. Theoretically, concomitant use of rice protein and ACE inhibitors may increase the risk of blood pressure becoming too low. Use with caution. ACE inhibitors include benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik).

Here's the gist: your Zestoretic already combines lisinopril (which relaxes blood vessels by blocking the ACE enzyme) with hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill). In test tube and animal studies, a special broken-down form of rice protein seemed to lightly block that same ACE enzyme too. In theory, stacking the two could push your blood pressure a little lower than intended.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This has only shown up in lab and animal research, never proven in people, so I'd file it under possible, not likely. If you do notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or unusual fatigue, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor. There's no need to stop your protein shake or your medicine on your own.

Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets — sold as the brand Zestoretic and as the generic combination — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as stroke and heart attack.

This is a fixed-dose combination product and is not intended as a first-line (initial) treatment for high blood pressure. It is typically prescribed for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on a single medication alone.
