Here's the simple version: this combo product pairs morphine, a strong opioid pain reliever, with a small dose of atropine. The concern with sage is mostly about the morphine side. Some compounds in sage appear, in lab studies, to have a calming or sedating effect on the brain. If you stack that on top of morphine, the worry is that the drowsiness could add up.

In real life that might mean feeling extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or slowed breathing, which is morphine's most serious risk. To be clear, this is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal work, not human studies. Cooking with sage is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or sage oil are the bigger question. Before adding any sage supplement, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, sage might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro evidence suggests that aqueous extracts of sage can inhibit CYP2D6. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with this combo: lab tests (not real people) suggest sage may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Morphine isn't a prodrug, so if that enzyme gets blocked, your body could clear morphine a little slower and let it build up. In theory that means stronger opioid effects, like extra drowsiness, slowed breathing, constipation, or feeling lightheaded. Atropine isn't really handled by CYP2D6, so it's mostly the morphine piece to keep an eye on.

The reassuring part: this is only a test-tube finding and hasn't been seen in humans, and a sprinkle of sage in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated extracts or sage oil are a different story. Please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding a sage supplement.

Here's the gist for this combination. Your medicine contains atropine and morphine, and morphine in particular is moved around the body by a transporter called P-glycoprotein. In lab dish studies, sage appears to slow that transporter down. If the same thing happened in people, a bit more morphine could stay in your system, which might mean stronger effects like extra drowsiness, slowed breathing, constipation, or feeling lightheaded.

The honest part: this is only seen in test-tube research, never confirmed in humans, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Sage on your dinner is a non-issue. Concentrated sage extracts or sage oil are where I'd be a little more cautious. Before adding any, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Here is the idea behind this one. The atropine part of your medicine works by blocking a body chemical called acetylcholine. In lab studies, sage seems to do the opposite, it can raise acetylcholine levels by slowing the enzyme that breaks it down. So on paper, sage could nudge against what atropine is trying to do and slightly weaken its effect.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so the real-world impact is likely small. Cooking with sage is no concern. Concentrated sage extracts or capsules are where I would pause, especially if your atropine dose is helping with things like a slow heart rate or stomach cramping. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding sage supplements.
