Here's the simple version: Clopidogrel (Plavix) already works to keep your platelets from clumping together so you don't form dangerous clots. Sea buckthorn appears to do a little bit of the same thing on its own. Some research shows its fruit extracts can make platelets less sticky. So when you stack the two, you may be nudging your bleeding risk a bit higher rather than changing how Plavix itself is processed.

In real life, that could show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. This is mostly a theoretical concern, and eating sea buckthorn berries or a splash of juice is unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated supplements are where I'd be more cautious. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding one.

What Is Clopidogrel Used For?

Brand name: Plavix

Clopidogrel tablets are used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) — including unstable angina and non-ST-elevation or ST-elevation heart attacks — and in people with a history of recent heart attack, recent stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease. For ACS, it is typically given alongside aspirin.

It works by preventing platelets (blood cells that trigger clotting) from clumping together, which helps keep arteries open and lowers the chance of a dangerous clot forming.
