Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version. This combo pill pairs ibuprofen (an anti-inflammatory pain reliever) with hydrocodone (an opioid). The piece that matters with sorrel is the ibuprofen. In lab dish studies, sorrel made platelets a little less sticky, which is the same general direction ibuprofen already nudges things. Ibuprofen on its own can irritate the stomach and raise the chance of bruising or bleeding.

So in theory, stacking sorrel on top could add to that bleeding tendency. But this has only been seen in test tubes, never in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a little sorrel in a soup. If you take concentrated sorrel supplements often, or you notice easy bruising, dark stools, or stomach upset, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
