Star of Bethlehem contains cardiac glycosides. Concomitant use of corticosteroids with star of Bethlehem can increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of long-term corticosteroid use due to potassium depletion and electrolyte imbalance.

Here's the idea behind this one. Star of Bethlehem naturally contains cardiac glycosides, plant chemicals that can affect your heart and your potassium levels. Prednisone, when taken for a long stretch, already tends to push potassium down. So the worry is that combining the two could lower potassium even more and throw your electrolytes off balance, which can mean muscle cramps, weakness, or an irregular heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on how the two might add up on paper, not on real-world reports. Also, most Star of Bethlehem you'll find is a heavily diluted Bach flower essence with little to no actual plant chemical in it, so a true essence is unlikely to matter. Still, if you're on prednisone for a while, run any supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.
