Dapagliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Stereospermum interacts with.

Animal research suggests that stereospermum can have hypoglycemic effects. This has not been shown in humans. Until more is known, use cautiously in patients taking antidiabetes drugs. Theoretically, concomitant use with antidiabetes drugs might affect glucose control and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.

Here's the gist of it: in animal studies, Stereospermum seemed to nudge blood sugar downward on its own. We haven't confirmed that in people, so think of this as a theoretical concern rather than something proven. Dapagliflozin (Farxiga) already lowers blood sugar by helping your kidneys flush extra glucose out in your urine. If you stack a second blood-sugar-lowering effect on top, the two could add up.

The worry would be your sugar dipping too low (hypoglycemia), with signs like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy. On its own, dapagliflozin rarely causes lows, so this mainly matters if you're also on insulin or a sulfonylurea. The evidence here is weak, so don't panic, but do mention any Stereospermum use to your doctor or pharmacist and keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Dapagliflozin Used For?

Brand name: Farxiga

Dapagliflozin is used for several serious conditions. It helps improve blood sugar control in adults and children aged 10 and older with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise). It also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Farxiga (dapagliflozin) is additionally approved to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, hospitalization, and urgent visits due to heart failure in adults with heart failure — and to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease, including reducing the risk of kidney failure and cardiovascular death, in adults with chronic kidney disease at risk of getting worse.
