Drug & supplement interaction

Strawberry + Olaparib

Olaparib brand name: Lynparza.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Strawberry and Olaparib in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Strawberry and Olaparib

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Olaparib and Strawberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Strawberry safety at a glance

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Olaparib

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Olaparib is filed under 2 classifications — cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates, oral drugs. Strawberry has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) and p-glycoprotein substrates (moderate) — and none of Olaparib’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Strawberry and Olaparib May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Olaparib, and in voluntary FDA adverse-event reports. Read the label on DailyMed ›

Reported for Strawberry but not commonly for Olaparib: an allergic reaction, a skin rash and hives.

Effects for Olaparib come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Strawberry come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 20,798 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Olaparib that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Olaparib page

“Grapefruit is the first thing to drop if you take Olaparib (Lynparza). It blocks CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears this cancer drug, so levels can climb and side effects with them.”

About Strawberry

What is Strawberry?

  • General antioxidant support
  • Heart and blood vessel health
  • Blood sugar support
  • Skin and oral health
  • Source of vitamin C and fiber

Strawberry is a popular, nutrient-rich fruit that supplies vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidant plant compounds. Eating strawberries as part of a balanced diet is healthy for most people, but concentrated supplement forms have only limited research behind specific health claims. If you have allergies or take it as a supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Fragaria × ananassa · Rosaceae · Fruit (berries); leaves are also used in some traditional preparations · Fresh or frozen fruit, juice, powder, extracts, capsules, and leaf tea

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Strawberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Strawberry record says about it on its own.

Strawberry: dosing

There is no official or standardized dose of strawberry for any health condition. As a food, a typical serving is about a cup of fresh strawberries, which fits easily into a healthy diet. For supplements such as powders, extracts, or capsules, follow the directions on the product label, since concentrations vary widely between brands.

About Olaparib

What Is Olaparib Used For?

Brand name: Lynparza

Lynparza (olaparib) is used to treat adults with certain ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancers that carry BRCA or other DNA-repair gene mutations — both as a maintenance therapy after platinum-based chemotherapy (including in combination with bevacizumab for some patients) and for recurrent disease. It is also approved for HER2-negative breast cancer with a germline BRCA mutation, both in early high-risk disease (adjuvant setting) and in metastatic disease.

Lynparza is additionally used as maintenance therapy for adults with germline BRCA-mutated metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma whose disease has not progressed on first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, and for adults with certain gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer — either alone (after prior enzalutamide or abiraterone) or in combination with abiraterone and prednisone or prednisolone. All uses require testing for specific genetic mutations using an FDA-approved companion diagnostic before starting treatment.
