ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Abciximab
Abciximab falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Swallowroot interacts with.
In vitro research shows that swallowroot inhibits platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version: Abciximab (ReoPro) is a powerful clot-blocker given through a vein during procedures like heart artery stenting. Its whole job is to stop your platelets from clumping together. Lab studies suggest Swallowroot may do a little of the same thing, nudging platelets toward not sticking. Stack the two and you could, in theory, raise the chance of bleeding or bruising.
The important context: this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's more of a caution flag than a proven problem. Also, abciximab is used in a hospital setting where your team watches you closely. Still, mention any Swallowroot use to your doctor or pharmacist beforehand so nothing surprises them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Abciximab page
“Because abciximab (ReoPro) exists to stop platelets from clotting during heart procedures like angioplasty, nearly all of the 218 supplements on this list pull in one direction. Some 202 have antiplatelet or blood-thinning activity of their own, and adding that on top of abciximab can raise bleeding risk.”

About Swallowroot
What is Swallowroot?
- Digestive complaints
- General tonic and appetite stimulant
- Blood purifier in folk medicine
- Antimicrobial and food preservative
- Cooling drink in hot weather
Swallowroot (Decalepis hamiltonii) is a root used in South Indian folk medicine and as a food flavoring, often pickled or made into a cooling drink. Modern scientific evidence for its health benefits in people is very limited, resting mostly on laboratory and animal studies, so its effectiveness is not proven. If you are considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
