Here's the thing to know about pairing Swallowroot with oral treprostinil. Treprostinil already works partly by relaxing blood vessels and keeping platelets from clumping together, so it can nudge you toward easier bleeding or bruising on its own. Swallowroot, in test-tube studies, also seems to slow platelets down. Stack the two and, at least in theory, you could see more of treprostinil's typical effects like nosebleeds, easy bruising, bleeding gums, headache, or flushing.

I want to be honest that this warning rests on lab research only, not human studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Pickled or flavoring amounts are unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements are a different story. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Swallowroot (Decalepis hamiltonii) is a root used in South Indian folk medicine and as a food flavoring, often pickled or made into a cooling drink. Modern scientific evidence for its health benefits in people is very limited, resting mostly on laboratory and animal studies, so its effectiveness is not proven. If you are considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

About Treprostinil

What Is Treprostinil Used For?

Brand names: Remodulin, Orenitram

Treprostinil treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Depending on the product and route, it is used to improve exercise ability, delay disease progression, or reduce symptoms tied to physical activity. Remodulin and treprostinil injection products are also indicated for patients who need to transition away from another PAH medicine called epoprostenol.

Tyvaso, Tyvaso DPI, and Yutrepia (inhaled forms) are additionally approved to treat pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3) — lung-pressure problems caused by scarring or inflammation in the lung tissue itself. Orenitram (extended-release oral tablet) is specifically indicated to delay disease progression and improve exercise capacity in PAH.
