Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Anagrelide
Anagrelide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Swallowroot interacts with.
In vitro research shows that swallowroot inhibits platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Anagrelide already works by lowering your platelet count and also makes your existing platelets a bit less sticky, which is part of how it helps with conditions like essential thrombocythemia. In lab dishes, swallowroot has been shown to slow platelets from clumping together too. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge you toward easier bleeding or bruising than either one alone.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is only test-tube and animal data, not studies in real people. Small amounts used as a food flavoring or pickle likely aren't a concern. A concentrated supplement is the bigger question mark. If you notice unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, or you're thinking about trying swallowroot, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Anagrelide page
“Anagrelide (Agrylin) lowers platelet counts in people whose bone marrow makes too many, so bleeding risk is already the thing being managed, and most of this list pushes on exactly that. The bulk of these ingredients have some blood-thinning or antiplatelet activity of their own, from danshen and piracetam at the serious end down to fa…”

About Swallowroot
What is Swallowroot?
- Digestive complaints
- General tonic and appetite stimulant
- Blood purifier in folk medicine
- Antimicrobial and food preservative
- Cooling drink in hot weather
Swallowroot (Decalepis hamiltonii) is a root used in South Indian folk medicine and as a food flavoring, often pickled or made into a cooling drink. Modern scientific evidence for its health benefits in people is very limited, resting mostly on laboratory and animal studies, so its effectiveness is not proven. If you are considering it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
About Anagrelide
What Is Anagrelide Used For?
Brand name: Agrylin
Both Agrylin and generic anagrelide capsules are used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms — a condition where bone marrow disorders cause dangerously high platelet counts. The goal is to bring platelet counts down, lower the risk of dangerous blood clots (thrombosis), and ease related symptoms including bleeding and clotting events.
