Syrian rue contains beta-carboline alkaloids, including harmine, harmaline, harmalol, harmol, and harmane. In vitro research suggests that these beta-carboline alkaloids can inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes.

Here's the wrinkle with this combo product (Damason-P): the part to watch is the hydrocodone. Hydrocodone is a bit of a prodrug, meaning your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to turn some of it into a stronger painkiller (hydromorphone). Syrian Rue's harmala alkaloids can block that same enzyme, at least based on lab studies.

So in theory, blocking CYP2D6 could mean less of hydrocodone gets converted, giving you weaker pain relief. The flip side is that the parent drug may linger longer, which muddies how this plays out. Honestly, this is theoretical and not well proven in people. The bigger concern is that Syrian Rue is an MAO inhibitor with real toxicity risks. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

This combination pill pairs aspirin and caffeine with hydrocodone, an opioid pain reliever. Lab studies hint that compounds in Syrian Rue can slow down CYP3A4, one of the liver enzymes that helps clear hydrocodone. If that enzyme works more slowly, hydrocodone could build up a bit more than usual, which may lead to stronger effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or slowed breathing.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not real-world cases, so I wouldn't panic. That said, Syrian Rue also acts as an MAO inhibitor and carries its own toxicity risks, so it's genuinely worth running past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Here's the piece that matters for this combo: your Damason-P tablet contains caffeine alongside the aspirin and hydrocodone. Syrian Rue's main compounds (harmaline and harmine) seem to interact with caffeine. In animal studies, pairing caffeine with harmaline made shakiness or tremors stronger and longer-lasting. So combining the two could, in theory, leave you feeling more jittery, shaky, or wired than usual.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from animal research, not people, so it's theoretical. The caffeine dose in one tablet is also fairly small. Still, Syrian Rue itself carries real toxicity risks and isn't something I'd recommend taking on your own. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing it with anything.
