Safinamide Mesylate falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Tarragon interacts with.

In vitro research suggests that tarragon extract inhibits monoamine oxidase (MAO)-A and MAO-B enzymes. Theoretically, concomitant use with MAOIs might increase the effects and adverse effects associated with MAOIs.

Here's the basic idea with Xadago (safinamide): it already works by blocking MAO-B, the enzyme that breaks down dopamine in your brain. In a lab setting, tarragon extract appeared to block MAO enzymes too. So the theory is that piling tarragon on top of safinamide could add to that MAO-blocking effect and possibly amplify safinamide's actions and side effects, things like trouble sleeping, nausea, dizziness, or unusual movements. There's also a general MAOI worry about blood pressure swings.

I want to keep this in perspective. This concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's theoretical. A sprinkle of tarragon in your cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated tarragon supplements or essential oil are where I'd be more cautious. Before adding any tarragon product, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
