In vitro research suggests that teazle extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and teazle might decrease the effectiveness of teazle or the anticholinergic agent.

Here's the gist for clozapine. Some lab studies hint that teazle might block an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which lets the body keep more of a brain chemical called acetylcholine around. Clozapine works partly in the opposite direction, it has strong anticholinergic activity, meaning it blocks acetylcholine. So in theory the two could tug against each other and slightly weaken what each one is trying to do.

Honestly, this is a theory based on test-tube work, not real patients, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Clozapine is a medicine that needs careful monitoring anyway, so don't add or stop teazle on your own. Just give your pharmacist or prescriber a quick heads-up before mixing them.

Teazle (Dipsacus fullonum) is a spiky plant used in traditional and folk medicine, most notably as a tincture marketed for Lyme disease and for joint pain and skin problems. There is very little high-quality human research to support any of these uses, so its benefits remain unproven. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and never use it to replace standard treatment for serious infections like Lyme disease.

What Is Clozapine Used For?

Brand names: Clozaril, Versacloz

Clozapine is used for two specific situations. First, it is prescribed for people with severe schizophrenia who have already tried other antipsychotic medications and have not gotten adequate relief. It is reserved for this group because of its serious risks.

Second, clozapine is used to lower the chances of repeated suicidal behavior in people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder who are considered to be at ongoing, chronic risk. It is not a first-choice medication — it is used when the need is serious and other options have fallen short.
