Cyproheptadine falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Teazle interacts with.

In vitro research suggests that teazle extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, concurrent use of anticholinergic drugs and teazle might decrease the effectiveness of teazle or the anticholinergic agent.

Here's the gist with cyproheptadine (Periactin) and teazle. Cyproheptadine works partly by blocking acetylcholine, the same chemical messenger that teazle, at least in lab dishes, may help preserve by slowing the enzyme that breaks it down. So the two could work against each other. In theory, teazle might slightly blunt cyproheptadine's antihistamine and drying effects, and cyproheptadine could push back on whatever teazle is trying to do.

I want to be honest with you: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube studies, not real patient reports. Cyproheptadine isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't need activating. If you notice your allergy symptoms (itching, runny nose, hives) creeping back, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Teazle (Dipsacus fullonum) is a spiky plant used in traditional and folk medicine, most notably as a tincture marketed for Lyme disease and for joint pain and skin problems. There is very little high-quality human research to support any of these uses, so its benefits remain unproven. Talk with a pharmacist or doctor before trying it, and never use it to replace standard treatment for serious infections like Lyme disease.

What Is Cyproheptadine Used For?

Brand name: Periactin

Cyproheptadine treats a range of allergic conditions, including perennial and seasonal allergic rhinitis (year-round or seasonal nasal allergies), vasomotor rhinitis (non-allergic nasal symptoms), and allergic conjunctivitis (itchy, watery eyes caused by allergens or foods). It also helps with allergic skin reactions such as urticaria (hives) and angioedema (skin swelling).

Additional uses include cold urticaria (hives triggered by cold), dermatographism (skin that hives when scratched), and helping to calm allergic reactions to blood or plasma transfusions. It is also used as a supportive therapy alongside epinephrine after a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) has been initially controlled.
