Here's the short version for your situation: the interaction on file isn't really about capecitabine changing, it's about the thyroid extract being poorly absorbed when it shares the stomach with food or other oral products. Capecitabine (Xeloda) is actually a prodrug, meaning your body converts it into its active cancer-fighting form, and there's no good evidence that thyroid extract changes how it works.

So the practical concern is just timing. To keep your thyroid hormone working well, it's usually taken on an empty stomach, separate from other pills. Capecitabine, on the other hand, is meant to be taken within 30 minutes after a meal. Because of that, please let your oncology pharmacist or doctor map out the timing for you, and tell them about any thyroid product you're using, since over-the-counter extracts are unpredictable.

About Capecitabine

What Is Capecitabine Used For?

Brand name: Xeloda

Capecitabine tablets are used to treat several types of cancer. For colorectal cancer, they can be used after surgery for Stage III colon cancer, for locally advanced rectal cancer alongside radiation, or for cancer that has spread or cannot be removed surgically. For breast cancer, capecitabine can be used alone when certain other chemotherapy types aren't appropriate, or in combination with docetaxel after prior treatment.

Xeloda (capecitabine) is also approved for unresectable or metastatic gastric, esophageal, or gastroesophageal junction cancer as part of a combination regimen, including for HER2-overexpressing tumors. Xeloda is additionally approved for adjuvant treatment of pancreatic adenocarcinoma in combination with other chemotherapy agents.
