Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Propranolol
Propranolol falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's the situation with these two together. The interaction on file is about how taking propranolol alongside your thyroid extract can affect how well that thyroid hormone gets absorbed. When pills travel through your gut at the same time, propranolol may slightly reduce how much thyroid hormone your body takes in. This is rated a minor issue, so it's not something to lose sleep over.
There's also a flip side worth knowing. Thyroid hormone and propranolol can each nudge the other's levels a bit, and because thyroid extract doses are unpredictable, your heart rate, blood pressure, or tremor control could drift over time. A simple fix is usually just spacing the doses apart. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about timing and whether your dose still fits.
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
About Propranolol (Cardiovascular)
What Is Propranolol (Cardiovascular) Used For?
Brand names: Inderal LA, Inderal, Angilol, Syprol, Inderal Injection, Half-Inderal LA, Bedranol SR, Half Beta Prograne, Beta Prograne, Lopranol LA, Slo-Pro, InnoPran XL
This intravenous (IV) form of propranolol is used in hospital or clinical settings to treat dangerous heart rhythm problems. It is generally reserved for life-threatening arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) or those that occur during anesthesia.
Specific conditions it treats include fast heart rates coming from the upper chambers of the heart (supraventricular tachycardia), certain arrhythmias caused by digitalis toxicity, dangerous ventricular rhythms that haven't responded to other treatments, and fast heart rates caused by excess adrenaline-like substances during surgery.

Propranolol Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Propranolol as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Thyroid Extract — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
