Oral Drugs
Why this applies to Norepinephrine
Norepinephrine falls under Oral Drugs — the group Thyroid Extract interacts with.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Here's a wrinkle worth pointing out: the interaction on file is really about swallowed thyroid pills and how food or minerals can block their absorption in your gut. Norepinephrine (Levophed) isn't an oral medicine at all. It's given through an IV in a hospital to raise dangerously low blood pressure, so the whole "empty stomach" absorption issue simply doesn't apply here.
That said, thyroid hormone and norepinephrine both rev up the heart and blood vessels. In theory, having extra thyroid hormone on board could make you a touch more sensitive to norepinephrine's effects, like a faster heartbeat or higher blood pressure. This is closely watched in the hospital already. If you take a thyroid product at home, let your care team know so they can keep an eye on things.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norepinephrine page
“Norepinephrine (Levophed) is given by IV drip in the hospital to raise dangerously low blood pressure, and this list warrants genuine vigilance, starting with its one major-rated entry. Activated charcoal binds many medications and can lower their levels even when a drug is not swallowed, which is why it rates major among the 19 ingred…”

About Thyroid Extract
What is Thyroid Extract?
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Fatigue and low energy
- Weight management
- Sluggish metabolism
- General thyroid support
Thyroid extract supplements are made from dried animal thyroid gland and may contain real thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), but the amounts in over-the-counter products are not standardized and can be unpredictable. Self-treating a thyroid problem with these supplements can be risky, so always work with a doctor or pharmacist and use prescription thyroid medicine when treatment is needed.
