Additionally, taking thyroid medications with certain drugs, like antacids or calcium supplements, can hinder the effectiveness of the thyroid medication, necessitating adjustments in dosage or timing. Prescription thyroid medications, such as Synthroid, are recommended to be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food and other medications, for optimal absorption.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: this interaction is really about the thyroid extract itself, not your tafamidis (Vyndaqel). The concern on file is that food and other oral products taken at the same time can bind up thyroid hormone and lower how much your body absorbs. So when you take a thyroid product alongside other pills, the worry is usually a weaker thyroid effect, not a change in your tafamidis.

Tafamidis is a stabilizer used for transthyretin amyloidosis, and it isn't known to be a prodrug that the thyroid supplement would activate or block. The simplest fix is timing. Thyroid products work best on an empty stomach, taken well before other medicines and food. I'd run your full schedule by your pharmacist or doctor so they can space things sensibly and confirm your thyroid supplement is even appropriate.
