Almotriptan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Vitamin E interacts with.

Theoretically, vitamin E might induce metabolism of CYP3A4, possibly reducing the levels CYP3A4 substrates.
Vitamin E appears to bind with the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of vitamin E and other drugs affected by these enzymes.

Here's the gist for almotriptan (Axert), your migraine rescue medicine. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break almotriptan down. The thought is that high-dose vitamin E may gently nudge that enzyme to work a little faster, which could clear almotriptan out a bit quicker and leave you with somewhat less migraine relief.

Honestly, this one is theoretical. It's based on how the chemistry looks on paper, not on real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. The vitamin E in food and a normal multivitamin is very unlikely to matter. If you take high-dose vitamin E daily and notice almotriptan isn't knocking out your migraines like it used to, that's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
