Why this applies to Venetoclax

Venetoclax falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Vitamin E interacts with.

Theoretically, vitamin E might induce metabolism of CYP3A4, possibly reducing the levels CYP3A4 substrates.
Vitamin E appears to bind with the nuclear receptor, pregnane X receptor (PXR), which results in increased expression of CYP3A4. Although the clinical significance of this is not known, use caution when considering concomitant use of vitamin E and other drugs affected by these enzymes.

Here's the basic idea. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down venetoclax. There's a theory that high-dose vitamin E nudges your body to make more of that enzyme, which could speed up how fast you clear venetoclax. If that happened, your blood levels might drop a little, and in theory that could mean less of the cancer-fighting effect you're counting on.

I want to be honest with you though, this is only a theoretical concern based on how vitamin E behaves in the lab, not real-world cases. Everyday food amounts of vitamin E are very unlikely to matter. Since venetoclax is such an important drug, please don't start a high-dose vitamin E supplement without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

About Venetoclax

What Is Venetoclax Used For?

Brand name: Venclexta

Venetoclax treats two types of blood cancers: chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) in adults. It can be used alone or in combination with other medicines such as obinutuzumab, rituximab, or acalabrutinib.

Venclexta is also used in combination with azacitidine, decitabine, or low-dose cytarabine for newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in adults aged 75 or older, or in adults who cannot tolerate intensive chemotherapy due to other health conditions.
