Cyclophosphamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.

Theoretically, zedoary might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.

Here's the wrinkle with cyclophosphamide: it's actually a prodrug. Your liver enzymes, including CYP3A4, have to switch it on before it can attack cancer cells. So this interaction doesn't work the way it does for most drugs. If zedoary slows down CYP3A4, as some lab studies hint it might, the worry is that less cyclophosphamide gets activated, which could blunt how well it works against your cancer.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's purely theoretical, based on test-tube research with other drugs, not real people taking cyclophosphamide. Still, with a chemo medicine this important, I wouldn't gamble. Please run any zedoary supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first before adding it.

About Cyclophosphamide

What Is Cyclophosphamide Used For?

Brand names: Cytoxan, Neosar

Cyclophosphamide is used to treat many types of cancer in adults and children, including malignant lymphomas (such as Hodgkin's disease and Burkitt's lymphoma), multiple myeloma, several forms of leukemia, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, neuroblastoma, retinoblastoma, and advanced mycosis fungoides (a type of skin lymphoma). It is often given alongside other chemotherapy drugs rather than on its own.

Oral and injectable powder formulations (but not the Cyclophosphamide Injection solution concentrate) are also approved for minimal change nephrotic syndrome — a kidney condition — in children who have not responded well to, or cannot tolerate, steroid therapy. The injectable solution concentrate is approved for adult patients only due to its alcohol content, and is not approved for use in children.
