Fexofenadine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.

Theoretically, zedoary might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.

Here's the good news on this pairing: even though our file flags zedoary as something that could slow down CYP3A4, fexofenadine (Allegra) doesn't really depend on that enzyme to be cleared from your body. It mostly leaves unchanged through transporters in your gut and kidneys, so a CYP3A4 effect isn't likely to pile up the drug the way it might with other medicines.

On top of that, this concern comes from test-tube research only, not from people, so it's theoretical at best. Fexofenadine is also a gentle antihistamine, with sleepiness or headache being the worst you'd usually expect. I wouldn't lose sleep over this combo, but since zedoary itself isn't well studied in humans, run it by your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

What Is Fexofenadine Used For?

Brand name: Allegra

Fexofenadine temporarily relieves symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

Several products — including Allegra Hives 24hr tablets — are specifically used to reduce hives (urticaria) and relieve the itching that comes with them. Keep in mind that fexofenadine will not prevent hives or stop an allergic skin reaction from happening in the first place.
