Carbamazepine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Zedoary interacts with.

Theoretically, zedoary might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In-vitro research shows that a methanol extract of zedoary strongly inhibits the CYP3A4 metabolism of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors lapatinib and sorafenib, and to a lesser extent, gefitinib.

Here's the idea behind this one: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down and clear carbamazepine (Tegretol, Carbatrol, and others). Zedoary, in lab dish studies, has shown it can slow this same enzyme down. If that happened in the body, carbamazepine could build up to higher levels than expected. With this drug that matters, because too much can cause dizziness, drowsiness, blurred or double vision, unsteadiness, and nausea.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is theoretical and comes only from test-tube work, not real people, so we don't truly know if it plays out in everyday life. Sprinkling zedoary as a spice is very different from a concentrated supplement. Carbamazepine is a touchy, narrow-window medicine, so check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding zedoary.

What Is Carbamazepine Used For?

Brand names: Tegretol, Tegretol XR, Equetro, Carbatrol, Carnexiv

Carbamazepine is used to treat certain types of seizures — including partial seizures, generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) seizures, and mixed seizure patterns. It works best for those specific seizure types; it does not appear to control absence (petit mal) seizures.

It is also prescribed to relieve the intense facial pain of trigeminal neuralgia — a nerve condition that causes sudden, severe pain along the face. It is not a general painkiller and shouldn't be used for ordinary aches and pains.
