L-Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease and possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and recovery from critical illness or trauma. Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic and physical performance, though the evidence for age-related cognitive decline, COPD, general cognitive function, and menopausal symptoms is insufficient.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though people with kidney or liver disease should use it only under medical supervision. The most common side effects are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, headache, and stomach pain — especially at higher doses.
Dizziness and headache have been reported, and in rare cases, mania or hypomania in people with bipolar disorder. Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated but commonly causes harmless skin tingling and flushing, typically starting on the scalp within 20 minutes and lasting about an hour — the intensity depends on dose.
There isn't enough safety data for L-Glutamine during pregnancy and lactation; the safety data advises against beta-alanine in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Data on the other amino acids' safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding isn't on file.
