What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Adult's Probiotic 17 Billion Cells against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

What’s inside
Low disclosure
This capsule contains six active probiotic strains — Lactobacillus plantarum HA-119, Lactobacillus casei HA-108, Lactobacillus rhamnosus HA-111, Lactobacillus acidophilus HA-122, Bifidobacterium bifidum HA-132, and Bifidobacterium breve HA-129 — all live organisms meant to support your gut health. The product also contains inactive ingredients: potato starch, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a capsule material), ascorbic acid (a preservative), stearic acid, and silicon dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L. acidophilus shows possibly effective evidence for irritable bowel syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis; it is possibly ineffective for atopic disease and has insufficient evidence for acute respiratory distress syndrome. B. bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections; it has insufficient evidence for hay fever, Alzheimer disease, and generalized anxiety disorder.
B. breve is possibly ineffective for age-related cognitive decline and sepsis, with insufficient evidence for hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and atopic disease. The other three strains in this blend don't have established effectiveness ratings in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Live organisms do carry a theoretical risk — in rare cases, some of these bacteria have been reported to cause infection, particularly in people with weakened immune systems or critical illness, though most documented cases are uncommon.
You may experience mild gastrointestinal side effects like gas, bloating, or abdominal discomfort when you first start, but these are uncommon. If you have a weakened immune system or serious illness, check with your doctor before use.
No pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data are on file for these ingredients, so talk with your healthcare provider for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity) — these can kill the live probiotics in this product, making it less effective. Space out when you take them and this supplement.
Use the checker below to see if any of your other medications interact with the 182 individual drugs documented for these strains.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with digestive and immune health, especially IBS. If you take antibiotics, you'll need to space out the timing.
People with healthy immune systems generally tolerate it well. Check with your pharmacist about your other medications and about whether it's right for you if you're pregnant, nursing, or have a weakened immune system.

Adult's Probiotic 17 Billion Cells by Flora Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Flora's Adult's Probiotic 17 Billion Cells contains six probiotic strains, three of which we could check for interactions.
The most serious concern is with antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity). Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium breve can all theoretically be killed by antibiotics taken at the same time, which would reduce how well the probiotics work.
If you're on antibiotics, space out when you take them and this product — ask your pharmacist or doctor for the timing that works best.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
We could not check the other three strains in this blend (Lactobacillus plantarum HA-119, Lactobacillus casei HA-108, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus HA-111) because we hold no interaction data for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your drugs are affected, and talk with your pharmacist before starting this product if you take antibiotics or have questions about your other medications.
