Agmatine Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Agmatine Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains three active ingredients. Agmatine sulfate is the main one — a compound formed naturally in your body that researchers have studied for various conditions.
The second is a grape seed extract branded as MegaNatural-BP, which contains compounds called proanthocyanidins. The third is a hydrolyzed whey peptide complex, which is whey protein broken down into smaller pieces for easier absorption.
The remaining ingredients are capsule materials and inactive fillers — cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and a few others.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we have doesn't establish that agmatine works for any of the conditions it's studied for — alcohol use disorder, Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, athletic performance, autism, and bipolar disorder all show insufficient evidence to rate it. Grape seed extract is possibly effective for one condition: chronic venous insufficiency (leg swelling from vein problems), but it's rated possibly ineffective for hay fever, nausea from chemotherapy, and obesity.
Whey protein is possibly effective for athletic performance but possibly ineffective for osteoporosis. If you're thinking about this product for a specific reason, it's worth talking through with us which ingredients — if any — have the evidence you're looking for.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Agmatine appears well tolerated in short-term use, though long-term safety in humans hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects are diarrhea, indigestion, and nausea — a small number of people in trials reported mild-to-moderate diarrhea and nausea within 2–3 days of starting, and these went away when they stopped.
Grape seed extract is generally well tolerated; common side effects include abdominal pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, headache, joint pain, and nausea. A rare serious reaction (anaphylaxis) to grape skin has been reported.
Whey protein is generally well tolerated, though common side effects include acne, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, nausea, reflux, reduced appetite, and thirst — most are dose-related. During pregnancy, avoid agmatine due to insufficient safety data; concentrated grape supplements should also be avoided, though whole grapes as food are fine.
Whey as a food is likely okay in pregnancy, but concentrated supplements haven't been well studied — talk with your doctor. For breastfeeding, there isn't enough data on concentrated agmatine or grape supplements, so check with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check your exact medications if you take any of these: levodopa (Parkinson's medication — Major severity), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonate bone drugs, or liver-metabolized medications (especially those processed by CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP1A2, or CYP2E1 enzymes). Also double-check if you use cyclosporine or midazolam.
Separate any quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics by at least 2 hours from this product, and take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, blood thinners, or levodopa for Parkinson's disease, you need to check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting. Short-term use of this product appears tolerable for most people, but long-term safety data is limited.

Agmatine Complex by GNC Pro Performance Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Agmatine Complex by GNC Pro Performance has documented interactions with multiple medication types.
The most serious concern is with levodopa (a Parkinson's medication), where the whey protein in this product might decrease how well the drug works — this is rated Major severity. It's worth mentioning upfront because Parkinson's patients need their medication to work reliably.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The grape seed extract here interacts with several drug classes at Moderate severity: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (increased bleeding risk), drugs broken down by your liver's CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP1A2, and CYP2E1 enzymes (which may change drug levels unpredictably), and a few specific medications — cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant), midazolam (a sedative), and phenacetin. The whey protein can also reduce absorption of quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics, and bisphosphonate bone drugs, if you take them too close together.
Agmatine sulfate itself carries Moderate-severity interactions with blood pressure medications and diabetes drugs — it may lower blood pressure or blood sugar further, raising the risk of dizziness or low blood sugar. Altogether, these interactions span 1,131 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Agmatine Complex with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
MegaNatural-BP Grape seed extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, grape extracts may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape extracts might decrease platelet aggregation.
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
Ingesting grape juice with cyclosporine can reduce cyclosporine absorption.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy young adults shows that intake of purple grape juice 200 mL along with cyclosporine can decrease the absorption of cyclosporine by up to 30% when compared with water. Separate doses of grape juice and cyclosporine by at least 2 hours to avoid this interaction.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, grape juice might reduce the levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that ingestion of 200 mL of grape juice decreases phenacetin plasma levels. This is thought to be due to induction of CYP1A2.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, grape seed extract may increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape seed extract might inhibit CYP2D6 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, grape seed extract might increase the levels of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro and animal research suggests that grape seed proanthocyanidin extract inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
It is unclear if grape seed extract inhibits or induces CYP3A4; research is conflicting.
In vitro evidence suggests that grape seed extract might inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes. However, evidence from animal research shows that grape seed extract may induce CYP3A4 in the liver. So far, these interactions have not been reported in humans.
Midazolam (Versed)
Theoretically, long-term intake of grape seed extract might decrease the effects of midazolam.
Animal research shows that subchronic ingestions of grape seed extract can increase the elimination of intravenous midazolam by increasing hepatic CYP3A4 activity. Single doses of grape seed extract do not appear to affect midazolam elimination.
Phenacetin
Grape juice might decrease phenacetin absorption.
A small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that ingestion of 200 mL of grape juice decreases phenacetin plasma levels. This is thought to be due to induction of cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2).
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
It is unclear if grape juice or grape seed extract inhibits CYP2C9; research is conflicting.
In vitro evidence shows that grape seed extract or grape juice might inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. However, a small pharmacokinetic study in healthy adults shows that drinking 8 ounces of grape juice once does not affect the clearance of flurbiprofen, a probe-drug for CYP2C9 metabolism. The effects of continued grape juice consumption are unclear.
Agmatine Sulfate
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, agmatine might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research suggest that agmatine has mild hypoglycemic effects.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, agmatine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that agmatine can modestly decrease heart rate and blood pressure.
hydrolyzed Whey Peptide Complex
Levodopa
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease levodopa absorption.
Small clinical studies show that concomitant ingestion of protein or high doses of leucine or isoleucine (100 mg/kg) and levodopa can exacerbate tremor, rigidity, and the "on-off" syndrome in patients with Parkinson disease.
Bisphosphonates
Theoretically, whey protein might reduce the absorption of bisphosphonates.
Whey protein contains minerals such as calcium that bind bisphosphonates in the gut. Advise patients to take bisphosphonates at least 30 minutes before whey protein, but preferably at a different time of day.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease quinolone absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that can bind to quinolones in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral quinolones at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, whey protein might decrease tetracycline absorption.
Whey protein contains minerals, such as calcium, that bind to tetracyclines in the gut. To avoid this interaction, advise patients to take oral tetracyclines at least 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after whey protein.
