Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 5 active ingredients.
  • “Anabolic & Muscle Matrix Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (350 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

Anabolic Elite contains 5 active ingredients, including gentian and four others—Blepharis, Night Jessamine, Devil Fig, and Eucommia—that make up the blend. The product also includes inactive ingredients like gelatin (capsule material), microcrystalline cellulose, maltodextrin, and food colorings.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Gentian product and its label doesn't state a use — see Gentian's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for gentian in this formula is incomplete. Our data shows insufficient evidence to rate gentian for wound healing, obesity, rhinosinusitis, and gastritis.

We hold no effectiveness information on the other active ingredients in Anabolic Elite, so we can't tell you what clinical evidence supports them.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Gentian is generally well tolerated in small amounts by healthy adults, but it can upset the stomach and hasn't been well studied at high doses. In one trial, patients taking gentian along with other herbs experienced gastrointestinal side effects—nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloating occurred in several participants who took the herbal combination for two weeks.

The safety data advises against gentian during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient information. We hold no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data for the other four active ingredients.

Before taking Anabolic Elite, double-check your blood pressure medications with your doctor or pharmacist—gentian can lower blood pressure and may intensify that effect (Moderate severity). We couldn't check four ingredients in this product, so it's worth reviewing all your medications with your pharmacist to be thorough.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Anabolic Elite may be a consideration for someone looking for an herbal supplement, but gentian's blood pressure effects mean you'll want to check it with your doctor or pharmacist first, especially if you take any blood pressure medications. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any prescription drugs, talk it over with your own healthcare provider before starting.

Anabolic Elite by BPI Sports: Common Questions

Does Anabolic Elite by BPI Sports interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Anabolic Elite has a known interaction with 172 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Anabolic Elite contains 5 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against gentian during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough reliable information. We also don't have safety data on file for the other active ingredients. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.
What does gentian do in this formula?
Gentian is included in the blend, but the evidence for its health benefits is incomplete—we don't have enough reliable data to rate it for wound healing, obesity, rhinosinusitis, or gastritis.
Will it upset my stomach?
Gentian can upset the stomach, and in one trial combining it with other herbs, several participants reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or bloating. If you have a sensitive stomach, start cautiously and watch how you feel.
Is this safe with my blood pressure medication?
Gentian can lower blood pressure on its own, so taking it with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of blood pressure dropping too low. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product.
