Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: benfotiamine, a fat-soluble form of thiamine (vitamin B1). It's designed to be absorbed more easily than regular thiamine, which is why it's used in supplements aimed at nerve health and blood sugar support.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Benfotiamine's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Benfotiamine for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Diabetic neuropathy — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for benfotiamine is mixed. It's possibly effective for diabetic nerve damage (neuropathy), but the data suggests it's possibly ineffective for diabetic kidney disease (nephropathy).

For Alzheimer's disease, alcohol use disorder, and general peripheral nerve problems, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. Talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for your specific situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Benfotiamine is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. In one 6-week trial of 98 people taking 300–600 mg daily, a small number reported allergic skin reactions and mild stomach discomfort — at rates no different from placebo.

There isn't enough safety information to recommend it during pregnancy, and safety while breastfeeding hasn't been well studied, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant or nursing.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Benfotiamine may be worth considering if you have diabetic nerve damage and your doctor thinks it's a fit for you. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or dealing with other conditions this supplement claims to address, check in with your doctor or pharmacist first — the evidence isn't strong enough across the board to self-treat.

Does Benfotiamine by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Benfotiamine. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Benfotiamine contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.

What side effects should I watch for?
In the studies we have, a few people reported allergic skin reactions or mild stomach upset, but these happened at about the same rate as placebo. Most people tolerate it well in the short term, though long-term safety isn't fully known.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data to say it's okay during pregnancy, and breastfeeding safety hasn't been well studied. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant or nursing — they can give you personalized advice.
What exactly is benfotiamine, and how is it different from regular B1?
Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble form of thiamine (vitamin B1) that's designed to absorb more easily into your body than standard thiamine supplements.
Is there anything in this powder besides benfotiamine?
This is a single-ingredient product — just benfotiamine, with no added fillers or other inactive ingredients.
