BioChroMate Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking BioChroMate against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
BioChroMate contains two active ingredients. Biotin is a B vitamin that plays a role in hair, skin, and nail health and is used to treat biotin deficiency.
Chromium is a mineral that supports healthy glucose metabolism and blood sugar regulation. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients: cellulose, gelatin, and magnesium stearate.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency. The evidence for other conditions — including seborrheic dermatitis, multiple sclerosis, and alopecia areata (hair loss) — is either insufficient or suggests it may not be effective.
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes; however, it appears to be ineffective for prediabetes, schizophrenia, and high blood pressure. The strength of evidence varies by condition, so talk with your pharmacist about whether this product matches what you're looking to address.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both biotin and chromium are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. Biotin is considered likely safe even in pregnancy and lactation, though check with your doctor before taking high-dose biotin supplements.
High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea. Chromium is usually well tolerated at normal doses but carries caution flags for high or long-term use; the safety data for higher doses is limited.
Common side effects with chromium include gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, and mood changes. Rare serious effects — kidney or liver damage, rhabdomyolysis, and blood cell disorders — have been reported with higher doses.
Chromium may also trigger skin rashes or contact dermatitis, especially in people with chromium sensitivity. For pregnancy and lactation, chromium is rated likely to possibly safe, but discuss supplementation with your doctor.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take insulin or antidiabetes medications, NSAIDs, aspirin, or levothyroxine (Synthroid), double-check this product with your pharmacist before you start. Chromium may lower blood sugar or reduce thyroid medication absorption, and pain relievers may increase chromium levels in your body.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
BioChroMate may help if you have a biotin or chromium deficiency, or if you're exploring chromium for blood sugar support. If you take insulin, diabetes medication, or levothyroxine (thyroid), this product needs a careful conversation with your pharmacist first — chromium can affect how these drugs work.
For high-dose or long-term use, check in with your doctor.

BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BioChroMate by Wonder Laboratories contains chromium, which does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with insulin and antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity) — chromium may increase insulin sensitivity and lower blood glucose levels, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). If you take insulin or diabetes medications, you'll want to discuss this product with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also has Moderate interactions with levothyroxine (Synthroid and others), a thyroid medication. Chromium may bind to levothyroxine in your digestive tract and reduce how much your body absorbs — research shows a potential 17% drop in levothyroxine levels.
If you take thyroid medication, timing matters; check with us on spacing before you start. Minor interactions are documented with NSAIDs and aspirin, which may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retain in your system.
Biotin, the other active ingredient, has no interactions documented in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 177 individual medications.

For each ingredient in BioChroMate with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
