Chromium and Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.

Why Are There 2 Interactions?

Chromium interacts with whole categories of medication. Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Chromium in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Minor).

Minor

NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs)

1 of 2

Why this applies to Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone

Aspirin, Caffeine, Hydrocodone falls under NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDs) — the group Chromium interacts with.

NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Good news here, this one is pretty low on the worry scale. The combo product Damason-P contains aspirin, and aspirin is the NSAID part that matters for this interaction. The thinking is that aspirin (which blocks prostaglandins) may help your body absorb and hold onto a little more chromium. In other words, your chromium levels might nudge up slightly, not the other way around.

Keep in mind this is theoretical, based on how these substances behave in the body, not on strong studies. For most folks taking occasional aspirin and a normal chromium dose, it isn't a real concern. The aspirin, caffeine, and hydrocodone do their usual jobs (pain relief, drowsiness, stomach upset) regardless. Still, if you take chromium daily, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

Here's the thing to keep in perspective with Damason-P (which combines aspirin, caffeine, and hydrocodone): the interaction on file isn't really about the medicine changing. It's the other direction. The aspirin part may help your body soak up a bit more chromium, possibly nudging chromium blood levels up. Nothing here suggests your pain relief or the hydrocodone effect would shift.

I'll be straight with you, this is based only on animal research, so it's theoretical and rated minor. For most people it won't cause any noticeable problem. If you take chromium for blood sugar, just keep an eye out for lower-than-usual readings, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

About Chromium

What is Chromium?

Chromium
  • Blood sugar support in type 2 diabetes
  • Weight loss and appetite control
  • Insulin sensitivity
  • Cholesterol and lipid support
  • General nutritional supplement

Chromium is an essential trace mineral involved in how the body handles sugar and fat. Some studies suggest it may modestly help blood sugar control in certain people with type 2 diabetes, but results are mixed and the effect on weight loss is small and uncertain. For most healthy people who eat a varied diet, supplements are not needed; check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.
