Chromium + Glucose
Glucose brand name: IV Glucose.
Chromium has a moderate interaction with Glucose. Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glucose
Glucose falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Chromium interacts with.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind: chromium may gently nudge your blood sugar down by helping insulin work better. Glucose, on the other hand, is sugar itself, often given to raise low blood sugar or as a source of energy. So in a sense these two pull in opposite directions.
For most people this isn't a dramatic interaction. But if you're taking chromium regularly and also relying on glucose tablets or drinks to treat low blood sugar, the chromium could blunt how well that quick sugar brings you back up, or you may find your readings running a bit lower overall. The research here is real but modest, and mostly seen in folks with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. If you use glucose to manage lows, mention the chromium to your pharmacist or doctor so they can help you watch your numbers.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

Questions About Chromium or Glucose
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Chromium or Glucose, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Glucose
This page covers Chromium only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Glucose page lists 256 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.
The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate) and Agaricus Mushroom (moderate).
By severity: 2 major · 215 moderate · 39 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glucose page
“Glucose given by IV raises a dangerously low blood sugar, and this list warrants real caution because most of its 256 ingredients pull the other way. Nearly all of them lower blood sugar on their own, working against the treatment and setting up another crash.”

About Chromium
What is Chromium?
- Blood sugar support in type 2 diabetes
- Weight loss and appetite control
- Insulin sensitivity
- Cholesterol and lipid support
- General nutritional supplement
Chromium is an essential trace mineral involved in how the body handles sugar and fat. Some studies suggest it may modestly help blood sugar control in certain people with type 2 diabetes, but results are mixed and the effect on weight loss is small and uncertain. For most healthy people who eat a varied diet, supplements are not needed; check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

Glucose Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glucose as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Chromium — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
