Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Black Cherry Concentrate is a single-ingredient product: black cherry juice concentrate. That's it — no fillers or added ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Wild Cherry product and its label doesn't state a use — see Wild Cherry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

We don't have effectiveness data on file for this product, so we can't tell you whether it works for any particular purpose.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Wild cherry is generally considered safe in the small amounts found in over-the-counter cough products. The real risk here is dose — the plant contains compounds that can break down into cyanide.

In large amounts, this can be toxic. One documented case involved a woman who consumed about 300 grams of wild cherries steeped in alcohol and developed severe poisoning with headache, nausea, confusion, and breathing trouble; she became comatose but did recover.

We don't have enough safety data to recommend this product while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're nursing.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you take any prescription medication, check it against the interaction tool on this page before using this product. The concern is theoretical but affects a very large number of drugs.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss it with your pharmacist first. Keep doses modest and don't treat this as a food you can consume in bulk.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
