What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Black Currant Leaf against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: black currant leaf glycerite liquid extract. Black currant leaf is traditionally used to support various health concerns, though the evidence backing most of those uses isn't well established yet.
The liquid is made with glycerin as an inactive ingredient to preserve and deliver the extract.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence supporting black currant leaf for Alzheimer disease, liver disease, upper respiratory tract infection, cough, and atopic dermatitis (eczema) is insufficient to rate. We don't have reliable data showing it works for these conditions, so we can't tell you whether it will help.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The black currant berry itself is safe to eat as food, but concentrated supplements like this one are less studied and need more caution. There isn't enough safety information on concentrated supplements to know all the risks, so talk with your doctor before starting.
A small number of people taking black currant seed oil in a clinical trial reported mild diarrhea a few days after beginning treatment, though this was uncommon. Pregnancy and lactation safety data isn't on file for this ingredient.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel—the product may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you take phenothiazines, a psychiatric medication class, because of a theoretical seizure risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Black currant leaf might appeal to you if you're looking for traditional herbal support, but the evidence for most uses isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners or psychiatric medications, definitely check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this—the interaction risk is real.
Since concentrated supplements of black currant haven't been studied as thoroughly as the berry itself, it's worth having that conversation before you start.

Black Currant Leaf by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Black Currant Leaf by TerraVita may interact with blood thinners and certain psychiatric medications.
The main concern is with anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs—blood thinners like warfarin and aspirin—because black currant leaf contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which can have blood-thinning effects. This Moderate interaction could increase your bleeding risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
There's also a Moderate concern with phenothiazines, a class of older psychiatric medications used for schizophrenia and other conditions. The GLA in black currant leaf theoretically might lower your seizure threshold when combined with these drugs, though evidence of this happening is limited.
Altogether, these interactions span 140 individual medications. Before starting this product, run through any blood thinners or psychiatric medications you take with the interaction checker on this page, and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.

Black Currant Leaf Glycerite Liquid Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding if used in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a constituent of black currant seed oil, appears to have antiplatelet effects.
Phenothiazines
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of seizure in patients receiving phenothiazines.
Black currant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is some concern that taking supplements containing GLA might cause seizures, or lower the seizure threshold, when taken with phenothiazines, although there is no evidence that black currant seed oil causes seizures. In one report, three patients with schizophrenia who had received phenothiazines developed EEG changes suggestive of temporal lobe epilepsy after starting treatment with GLA, although none experienced an actual seizure. In another report, two patients with schizophrenia who were stabilized on phenothiazines developed seizures when evening primrose 4 grams daily, which contains GLA, was added. One of these patients had a prior history of seizures.
