Anise is generally safe as a food or tea, though the concentrated essential oil requires more caution, and medicinal amounts and the oil should be avoided in pregnancy due to limited safety data.
Cinnamon, cardamom, oat, vanilla, and rooibos are safe in food amounts; cinnamon and chicory should be avoided at high supplement doses in pregnancy. Eleuthero is generally well tolerated short-term but has limited long-term safety data and should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
The most common side effects reported across these ingredients are mild—bloating, flatulence, headache, and minor skin reactions in sensitive people. Anise and vanilla can trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, including rare anaphylaxis with anise.
Rooibos at very high doses (10+ cups daily long-term) has been reported in one case to cause liver problems.

Rooibos can theoretically boost the levels of these drugs in your body, which might raise the risk of side effects.

Anise, cinnamon, oat, chicory, and eleuthero root each interact with blood-sugar drugs (antidiabetes medications and insulin), raising the theoretical risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Anise also has documented interactions with antidepressants (fluoxetine and imipramine), the anti-anxiety drug diazepam (Valium), the pain medication codeine, and caffeine—in each case, animal studies suggest it may either reduce their effectiveness or increase their effects.
Cinnamon carries a theoretical risk with drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs). Rooibos may also interact with blood-pressure drugs (ACE inhibitors) and the cholesterol medication atorvastatin (Lipitor).
Eleuthero has documented interactions with blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), drugs that suppress the immune system, and digoxin (Lanoxin), a heart medication.
Stevia, one of the sweetening ingredients, may theoretically interact with lithium (a mood stabilizer), blood-pressure medications, and antidiabetes drugs. Chicory carries a theoretical risk with antidiabetes drugs as well.
