What’s inside
Full disclosure
This powder contains 10 active ingredients. Sodium provides electrolyte support but is present in amounts you should be mindful of if you take heart or blood pressure medications.
Beta-alanine is included for athletic performance. Vitamin B12 supports energy and nerve function.
Taurine supports heart and liver health. Citrulline malate, AlphaSize (alpha-GPC), AstraGin, Himalayan rock salt, Senactiv, and deer antler velvet extract round out the formula.
The product also contains inactive ingredients — natural flavors, silicon dioxide, calcium silicate, stevia, malic acid, citric acid, and beet juice powder — which are fillers and flavoring agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is mixed. Sodium is likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for amphotericin B kidney toxicity, though for most other uses the data is not conclusive.
Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic and physical performance but insufficient evidence exists for cognitive decline or other uses. Vitamin B12 is effective for B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease, and likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
Taurine is possibly effective for hepatitis and heart failure (congestive heart failure) but possibly ineffective for obesity. Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease but insufficient evidence exists for cognitive function and other brain conditions.
Deer velvet extract has insufficient evidence for all listed uses. For several ingredients, we simply don't have effectiveness data on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these ingredients are generally well tolerated in typical doses. Sodium is safe in normal dietary amounts but too much is linked to high blood pressure and heart strain — avoid sodium supplements or very high intake without medical advice.
Beta-alanine commonly causes harmless tingling and flushing of the skin, usually starting on the scalp within 20 minutes and lasting about an hour; this is dose-dependent and mild to tolerable at lower doses. Taurine is generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, though long-term safety is less certain; it may cause constipation, diarrhea, or indigestion.
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety is not fully established, and there is a rare but serious association with stroke after 2 or more months of use. Deer velvet appears well tolerated in short-term use, but long-term safety and product quality are not well studied.
Vitamin B12 is very safe with no established upper limit. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: there is not enough safety information for beta-alanine, alpha-GPC, or deer velvet during pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor before use.
Sodium is possibly unsafe during lactation but likely safe in pregnancy. Taurine is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.
Vitamin B12 is safe and needed during both pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check whether you take any antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications), lithium (bipolar disorder), corticosteroids, or other sodium-containing medications — sodium can reduce their effectiveness or increase sodium levels in your blood. Also double-check if you're on scopolamine patches for motion sickness, metformin for diabetes, oral contraceptives, or estrogen therapy.
Use the medication checker on this page to run your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a pre-workout powder aimed at athletic performance, but the sodium content and several moderate interactions with blood pressure, heart, and psychiatric medications mean you need to check your specific medications first. If you take antihypertensives, lithium, corticosteroids, or any sodium-sensitive medication, talk with your pharmacist before adding this to your routine.
It's not for pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical clearance.

For each ingredient in Bucked Up Non-Stimulant Pink Lemonade Flavor with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
Deer Antler Velvet Extract
Contraceptive Drugs
Theoretically, deer velvet might interfere with the effectiveness of contraceptive drugs.
Laboratory research shows that deer velvet contains small quantities of estradiol and testosterone. While clinical research shows that taking deer velvet extract does not raise testosterone levels, estradiol levels were not measured.
Estrogens
Theoretically, deer velvet might increase the effects and side effects of estrogens.
Laboratory evidence shows that deer velvet contains small quantities of estradiol and testosterone. While clinical research shows that taking deer velvet extract does not raise testosterone levels, estradiol levels were not measured.
Vitamin B12
Metformin (Glucophage)
Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.
AlphaSize
Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)
Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
