Azilsartan, Chlorthalidone falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Sodium interacts with.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Edarbyclor combines two blood pressure medicines: azilsartan, which relaxes your blood vessels, and chlorthalidone, a 'water pill' that helps your body shed extra salt and fluid. Here's the catch: if you take in a lot of sodium (salt), you're essentially working against both of these drugs. Sodium pulls water into your bloodstream and raises blood pressure, which can blunt the very effect this medication is trying to achieve.
In plain terms, a high-salt diet may keep your readings higher than they should be, even on your medication. This is well supported by research, but it applies to dietary salt, not to a normal sprinkle on food. Please don't add sodium supplements without checking first, and talk to your pharmacist or doctor about a reasonable salt target for you.
