Burdock Root Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Burdock Root against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: burdock extract, a liquid concentrate of the burdock root plant. The extract is suspended in water, glycerin, and alcohol as inactive carriers.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold does not establish burdock's effectiveness for any of the conditions listed—acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, or atopic dermatitis (eczema). All six ratings fall under insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
If you're considering burdock for one of these uses, talk with your doctor about what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Burdock is generally well tolerated when eaten as food and for short-term medicinal use in healthy adults, though human safety data remain limited. Serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis are rare.
Contact dermatitis has been reported, especially with prolonged use of burdock root oil or plasters; reactions can appear up to a week after use. A single case of liver injury was reported in someone taking an herbal tea with burdock and other ingredients, but it's unclear whether burdock was responsible.
Do not take medicinal amounts of burdock during pregnancy due to lack of safety data and possible effects on the uterus. Avoid medicinal use while breastfeeding—there isn't enough safety information.
If you're pregnant or nursing and interested in burdock, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications—warfarin, dabigatran, clopidogrel, aspirin at therapeutic doses, or others—check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. The interaction is theoretical but documented as Moderate severity.
The bottom line
