Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: chlorophyll, at 100 mg per capsule. Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in plants; it's been studied for potential benefits in wound healing, herpes infections, skin cancer, and inflammation of the pancreas, though the evidence remains limited.

The capsule also contains gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Chlorophyll product and its label doesn't state a use — see Chlorophyll's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for chlorophyll is not established in the data we hold. It has been studied for genital herpes, wound healing, herpes zoster (shingles), nonmelanoma skin cancer, and pancreatitis, but all of these have received a rating of insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.

In other words, we don't yet have enough high-quality research to confirm whether it works for these uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorophyll is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but high-quality long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effect is photosensitization — increased sun sensitivity — which can cause blisters and skin irritation on sun-exposed skin.

A rare serious side effect called pseudoporphyria (a blistering condition) has been reported in case reports after oral use. Because safety information during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not reliable or unknown, the safety data advises against use in pregnancy and recommends avoiding it while breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Chlorophyll.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 337 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check before taking if you use methotrexate (a Moderate interaction where chlorophyll may delay how your body clears it) or any photosensitizing drugs (Moderate interaction due to additive sun-sensitivity effects). Use the search tool on this page to verify your exact medications, and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Chlorophyll may be worth considering if you're interested in experimenting with it for herpes, wound care, or skin concerns — but understand the evidence of effectiveness isn't established yet. If you take methotrexate or photosensitizing medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Be aware that sun sensitivity is the main side effect to watch for, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your healthcare provider specifically recommends otherwise.

Methotrexate (Trexall, Others)

Theoretically, chlorophyll may reduce the clearance of methotrexate.
In one case report, a 54-year-old male developed delayed clearance of intravenous high-dose methotrexate with concomitant use of chlorophyll. When chlorophyll was stopped 2 days prior to methotrexate treatment, methotrexate clearance was unaffected.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Photosensitizing Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.
