Acitretin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

Here's the thing to know if you take acitretin (Soriatane) for psoriasis: this medication already makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you can sunburn faster than usual. Chlorophyll supplements have, in a couple of case reports, also triggered light-sensitivity reactions (a skin condition called pseudoporphyria). The concern is that the two together could add up and make your skin even more prone to burning or rashes from sun and bright light.

This is mostly a theoretical concern based on limited reports, not strong proof, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, it's smart to be extra careful with sun protection. Use sunscreen, cover up, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chlorophyll, rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

What Is Acitretin Used For?

Brand name: Soriatane

Acitretin capsules are approved to treat severe psoriasis in adults. It is typically reserved for patients whose psoriasis has not responded to other treatments, or when other treatments are not appropriate options.

Because of serious risks — including the risk of severe birth defects — acitretin is not a first-line choice. In women who could become pregnant, it should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and strict pregnancy-prevention measures are in place.
