What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chromium. Chromium is a mineral that plays a role in how your body handles blood sugar and insulin.
The inactive ingredients are dicalcium phosphate and cellulose — common tablet binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is Likely Effective for chromium deficiency. The evidence suggests it's Possibly Effective for type 2 diabetes, especially in people whose blood sugar is already hard to control.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the research points to Possibly Ineffective — meaning the data don't show a clear benefit.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Rare but serious side effects — kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), and low platelet counts — have been reported, usually at higher doses or with long-term use. Skin rashes, hives, and contact dermatitis can occur, especially if you have a chromium allergy.
For pregnancy, small amounts from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamin are considered generally acceptable, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it. Safety data on higher supplement doses in pregnancy is limited.
For breastfeeding, chromium is rated Likely Safe.
Meds to double-check

Chromium Picolinate 200 by GNC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Chromium Picolinate 200 by GNC interacts with several medication types, most notably drugs that affect blood sugar and thyroid hormone.
The most serious interactions are with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — chromium may add to their blood-sugar-lowering effect and increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This is a Moderate-severity concern.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium may also interfere with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid hormone replacement. Clinical research shows that chromium picolinate can reduce how much levothyroxine your body absorbs by around 17%, which could weaken its effect on your thyroid — also Moderate severity.
NSAIDs and aspirin are Minor concerns; they may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains.
Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications. If you take any blood-sugar medication, thyroid hormone, NSAIDs, or aspirin regularly, use the medication checker below before you start this supplement.

For each ingredient in Chromium Picolinate 200 with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
