What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chromium at 200 micrograms per capsule, delivered as chromium picolinate. The rest is inactive ingredients—plant fiber, cellulose, and water—which help form and fill the capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for chromium deficiency, which is rare in people eating a varied diet. It's possibly effective for type 2 diabetes, with some research showing it may help lower blood sugar, especially if your diabetes control isn't ideal.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the evidence we have suggests it's likely ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Serious effects like kidney or liver damage are rare but have been reported, particularly at high doses (1200–2400 mcg daily) over months. You may also develop skin rashes or itching, especially if you have a contact allergy to chromium.
During pregnancy, small amounts from food or prenatal vitamins are generally considered acceptable, but extra supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it. The same caution applies to breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with a pharmacist before adding this if you take insulin or diabetes medications—chromium may lower your blood sugar further. Levothyroxine (thyroid medication) absorption may drop, so those two need spacing.
NSAIDs and aspirin may increase chromium levels in your body.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have type 2 diabetes or your doctor suspects a chromium deficiency, this might be worth discussing. If you take insulin, antidiabetic drugs, levothyroxine, or NSAIDs regularly, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting—the interactions are real and may need timing adjustments or dose changes.

Chromium (Picolinate) 200 mcg by Pure Encapsulations Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Chromium Picolinate 200 mcg by Pure Encapsulations does interact with several medication types, and the most serious concerns are with diabetes drugs and insulin.
Chromium may lower blood sugar on its own, which means if you're already taking insulin or antidiabetic medications (like metformin or sulfonylureas), adding chromium could push your blood sugar too low. You'd need your doctor to monitor your levels and possibly adjust your dose.

The product also interacts with levothyroxine (thyroid medication). Chromium can bind to it in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs—research shows a 17% drop in levothyroxine levels when the two are taken together.
You should space them apart by several hours, and your thyroid levels may need rechecking if you start this supplement.
NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) and aspirin may increase how much chromium your body absorbs, though these are Minor interactions. Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Chromium (Picolinate) 200 mcg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
