HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Collagen Gummies Grape by Vital Proteins
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies Grape contains 2 active ingredients: sodium and collagen peptides (VERISOL). The collagen peptides are a concentrated form of collagen protein.
The gummies also contain inactive ingredients—glucose syrup, sugar, water, gelatin, and several others that give them structure, flavor, and texture.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Collagen peptides in this product are possibly effective for aging skin and dry skin, according to the evidence we hold. For muscle strength, the data suggests they're probably not effective.
Safety and effectiveness for acne and athletic performance haven't been established in our data. As for sodium, it's likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for preventing kidney damage from amphotericin B (an antifungal), but there isn't reliable evidence to rate it for bipolar disorder or heart failure.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Collagen peptides are generally well tolerated as a dietary protein, with side effects like nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, and gas being rare. Sodium is essential in small amounts, but excess intake is linked to high blood pressure and heart strain.
Normal dietary sodium is fine, but you shouldn't use sodium supplements or take in very high amounts without talking to your doctor first. The product's safety in pregnancy is mixed: sodium is rated possibly unsafe, while collagen peptides haven't been well studied in pregnancy—check with your doctor before using if you're pregnant.
During breastfeeding, collagen peptides have little safety data, so caution is advised.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies Grape, double-check with your pharmacist if you take blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), lithium, corticosteroids (like prednisone), didanosine (Videx), sodium phosphate bowel-cleansing products, tolvaptan (Samsca), or any other sodium-containing drugs. Sodium in this product could reduce how well some of these work or raise your sodium levels too high.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
These gummies might make sense if you're interested in collagen for skin or if you simply want a convenient gummy supplement. But if you take blood pressure medications, lithium, steroids, or other sodium-sensitive drugs, talk to your pharmacist or doctor first—the sodium content could interfere with how those medications work.

Collagen Gummies Grape by Vital Proteins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Vital Proteins Collagen Gummies Grape contains sodium, which interacts with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives): high sodium intake can reduce how well they work, potentially forcing you to need higher doses to control your blood pressure.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium also has Moderate interactions with corticosteroids (steroids like prednisone), which can cause your body to retain sodium and raise your sodium level too high; lithium, where extra sodium can lower lithium levels and make it less effective, or lower sodium intake can dangerously raise lithium levels; didanosine (Videx), an HIV medication that already contains sodium; sodium phosphate bowel-cleansing products; tolvaptan (Samsca), used to raise sodium in certain conditions; and other sodium-containing drugs. Altogether, these interactions span 205 individual medications.
The product's other active ingredient, collagen peptides (VERISOL), has no known interactions with medications. That said, if you take any of the drug types mentioned above—especially blood pressure or lithium medications—check your exact prescriptions with the tool on this page before you start these gummies.

For each ingredient in Collagen Gummies Grape with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
