HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Complete Spore Restore by Dr. Mercola
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Complete Spore Restore contains 7 active ingredients: the soil-based organisms Bacillus subtilis HU58 and Bacillus coagulans SC-208, plus two mushrooms (Lion's Mane and Shiitake), a proprietary organic mushroom blend, a proprietary SBO probiotic blend, and Bacillus clausii SC-109. The live spore and probiotic organisms in this product are meant to colonize your gut and support digestive health.
The mushroom ingredients add polysaccharides and other compounds thought to support immune function and overall wellness. The supplement also contains two inactive ingredients: tapioca syrup and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a capsule material and thickener).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's ingredients is mixed and often limited. Bacillus subtilis is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea; the same goes for Bacillus coagulans, which is also possibly effective for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
For Lion's Mane and Shiitake, the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence for the uses commonly claimed — cognition, anxiety, cancer, and athletic performance among them. Most other uses have not been established with reliable evidence in the data we have.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans are generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though product quality and strain safety can vary. One headache case was reported with Bacillus subtilis in a trial, and rare cases of diarrhea have been noted.
Very rarely, Bacillus infections (bacteremia and meningitis) have occurred, mostly in people with weak immune systems or in those consuming large amounts of fermented soy containing Bacillus var. natto. Lion's Mane is generally well tolerated as a food but not well studied long-term as a supplement; gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and skin rash have been reported.
The safety data is not enough to recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Shiitake is generally well tolerated when cooked and eaten as food, but raw shiitake can rarely cause a skin reaction called shiitake dermatitis, and concentrated supplements lack adequate safety data.
All these ingredients carry limited safety information overall; check with your doctor before using.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, double-check any antibiotic drugs you're taking — the live organisms in this product may be killed if taken together. Also check blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, immune-suppressing drugs, and any medications metabolized by the CYP2D6 liver enzyme, all of which may interact with the mushroom ingredients at Moderate severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-ingredient probiotic and mushroom blend that may be worth considering if you're interested in digestive support and your doctor agrees. If you take antibiotics, blood thinners, diabetes medications, or drugs that weaken the immune system, you'll need to discuss this product with your pharmacist first.
Pregnant or breastfeeding people should avoid Lion's Mane and Shiitake given the limited safety data.

Complete Spore Restore by Dr. Mercola Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Complete Spore Restore by Dr.
Mercola contains several active ingredients, and we do have documented interactions for some of them. The most serious interactions affect antibiotic drugs — a Moderate severity concern.
Two of the live-organism ingredients in this product, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans, may be killed by antibiotics taken at the same time, which could reduce their effectiveness. You'll want to separate doses of this supplement from any antibiotic by several hours.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lion's Mane mushroom carries Moderate interactions with blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs) — it may theoretically increase bleeding risk — as well as diabetes medications and drugs that suppress the immune system (immunosuppressants). Shiitake mushroom also has Moderate interactions with immunosuppressants and with certain medications processed by the liver's CYP2D6 enzyme, which could lower their blood levels.
We could not check three ingredients in this product: Bacillus clausii SC-109, Pediococcus acidilactici, and Turkey Tail. No interaction data is on file for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 676 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to look up your exact prescriptions before you start.
