Probulin Daily Digestive Enzymes contains 21 active ingredients — a mix of digestive enzymes and probiotics. The enzymes include papain (from papaya), lipase (breaks down fats), protease (breaks down proteins), lactase (breaks down milk sugar), and several others that help your body digest different foods.
You also get two live probiotic strains, lactobacillus acidophilus and lactobacillus plantarum, which are beneficial bacteria that support your gut. The product also contains inactive ingredients like vegetable cellulose (the capsule), rice maltodextrin, and complex marine polysaccharides as fillers and binders.

Strong evidence
For lactobacillus acidophilus, the evidence suggests it may help with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), diarrhea caused by antibiotics, helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacteria), and bacterial vaginosis — though the data isn't yet conclusive. For the other active ingredients — papain, lactase, lipase, protease, phytase, and the rest — we either don't have effectiveness data on file or the evidence isn't strong enough to rate them for any specific use.
Most were included because they're common digestive aids, but their actual benefit in this formula hasn't been established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Papain is generally well tolerated when used short-term at appropriate doses, but it can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people — including itchy watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. High doses may cause serious stomach irritation or damage.
Papain is not recommended during pregnancy due to safety concerns, and there isn't enough data to recommend it while breastfeeding. Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children.
Lactase and lipase are also considered well tolerated when used as directed. Protease may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions in some people and should be avoided during pregnancy unless prescribed.
Phytase has limited safety data in humans; there isn't enough information about its use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
