Devil's claw is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but it does come with some important cautions. The most common side effects are mild: allergic skin reactions, diarrhea, and indigestion (dyspepsia).

Some people report stomach upset, appetite loss, heartburn, or taste changes—especially at higher doses. Rare but serious cases of gastrointestinal bleeding have been reported.

One trial participant had to stop after 4 days because of a throbbing headache, ringing in the ears, appetite loss, and taste changes; dizziness, drowsiness, and insomnia have also been reported rarely, though it's unclear if devil's claw caused them. Don't use this during pregnancy—the safety data advises against it because devil's claw may affect the uterus.
