Amiodarone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Devil's Claw interacts with.

Theoretically, devil's claw might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that devil's claw might inhibit CYP3A4, although this has not been reported in humans.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear amiodarone. In test-tube studies, devil's claw appeared to slow that same enzyme down. If that held true in people, amiodarone could build up a bit more than expected, and since this is a heart rhythm drug with a narrow safety window, even small changes deserve attention. More drug in the system could mean a greater chance of effects like a very slow heart rate, dizziness, fatigue, or other rhythm changes.

That said, this is theoretical and only comes from lab research, not from real patients, so it may not happen at all. Still, given how serious amiodarone is, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Amiodarone Used For?

Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).

Because amiodarone comes with significant risks, doctors reserve it for situations where other options haven't worked or can't be tolerated. It is not a first-choice medication — it's a last-resort tool for serious, life-threatening conditions.
