Devil's Claw is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but digestive upset is common. The most frequently reported side effects are allergic skin reactions, diarrhea, and indigestion; gastrointestinal complaints appeared in about 9 to 18 percent of patients in one trial, and diarrhea in roughly 8 percent in another.

Rarely, headache, dizziness, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, or loss of taste have been reported, though it's unclear if devil's claw caused them. Gastrointestinal bleeding is rare but has been documented.

Avoid devil's claw during pregnancy because it may affect your uterus and safety hasn't been established. Don't use it while breastfeeding either—there isn't enough safety information.
