Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
The active ingredients are EPA, DHA, sodium, total omega-3 fatty acids, other omega-3 fatty acids, and total protein. Our data describes sodium's role as essential in small amounts, but it does not give roles for the other active ingredients.
The inactive ingredients listed are omega-3, medium chain triglyceride, modified corn starch, glycerol, carrageenan, mixed tocopherols, sunflower lecithin, ascorbyl palmitate, rosemary extract, and sodium carbonate.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Our data lists effectiveness ratings for several conditions: cystic fibrosis is rated Likely Effective, amphotericin B nephrotoxicity is rated Possibly Effective, and bipolar disorder and congestive heart failure are rated Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate. The data does not tie these ratings to a specific ingredient in this product, so we cannot say which ingredient they apply to.
Because of that, we cannot say this product works for any of these conditions. Talk with your own doctor about whether a supplement like this fits your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is essential in small amounts, but too much is linked to high blood pressure and strain on the heart. Our notes advise that normal dietary sodium is generally well tolerated, and that you should avoid sodium supplements or very high intake without medical advice.
Serious rare effects listed for oral sodium include worsened cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and kidney disease. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, our data holds two sodium entries that conflict: one rates it Likely Safe and the other Possibly Unsafe.
Our data holds no pregnancy or breastfeeding entries for the other ingredients. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist for advice that fits you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check these medication types before taking this product, worst severity first. Every documented sodium interaction is rated Moderate, and the types are antihypertensive drugs, corticosteroids, lithium, didanosine, sodium phosphates, tolvaptan, and sodium-containing drugs.

DHA Vegan 885 mg by Puro Omega Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Puro Omega DHA Vegan 885 mg interacts with some medications, and the interactions come from its sodium content.
Sodium is the only ingredient with documented interactions in our data. The most serious one is rated Moderate and involves antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medicines), which sodium may make less effective.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other drug types with documented sodium interactions are corticosteroids (Moderate), where sodium retention and a higher risk of hypernatremia (too much sodium in the blood) may occur; lithium (Moderate), where changes in sodium intake can shift lithium levels and cause toxicity; didanosine (Moderate), sodium phosphates (Moderate), tolvaptan (Moderate), and sodium-containing drugs (Moderate), where the risk of hypernatremia may increase.
Altogether, these interactions span 205 individual medications. EPA and total omega-3 fatty acids are blend groups whose component ingredients are not itemized in our data, and DHA, other omega-3 fatty acids, and total protein are ones we hold no interaction data for, so we could not check them.

For each ingredient in DHA Vegan 885 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
