Digest Assure Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Digest Assure against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Digest Assure contains 7 active ingredients—all digestive enzymes that break down different types of food. Papain and Bromelain are plant-based proteases that break down proteins.
Protease does the same job. Lipase breaks down fats, while Lactase handles dairy sugar (lactose).
Amylase and Cellulase round out the blend to tackle starches and plant fiber, respectively. The product also contains gelatin as an inactive ingredient in the capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for most of these enzymes is limited. Lactase is the only one rated as effective—it works for lactose intolerance.
For papain, bromelain, protease, and lipase, we don't have reliable evidence to say whether they help with digestive complaints or any other condition. The data on file simply isn't there.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated at normal doses. The main risks are allergic reactions (especially in people sensitive to papain or bromelain) and mild digestive upset like diarrhea, bloating, or stomach cramping.
Papain and Bromelain should be avoided during pregnancy—the safety data advises against them. For Protease and Lipase, there isn't enough safety data in pregnancy, so talk with your doctor if you're pregnant or trying to conceive.
During breastfeeding, the same caution applies: Papain and Bromelain should be avoided, while Protease, Lipase, and Lactase haven't been well studied, so check with your healthcare provider first. We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding data on file for Amylase and Cellulase.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take warfarin or any blood thinner (anticoagulant) or antiplatelet drug like aspirin or clopidogrel, check with your pharmacist—Papain and Bromelain may raise your bleeding risk. If you're on a tetracycline antibiotic, let your pharmacist know as Bromelain might affect how much you absorb.
No interactions are documented for Protease, Lipase, and Lactase in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Digest Assure is worth considering if you have trouble digesting certain foods or have lactose intolerance—lactase does that job well. If you take warfarin or any blood thinner, check with your pharmacist first because papain and bromelain may increase bleeding risk.
Pregnant and breastfeeding people should talk with their doctor before using this product.

Digest Assure by ProCaps Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Digest Assure by ProCaps Laboratories contains two enzymes with documented interactions with medications.
Papain may increase the effects of warfarin (a blood thinner), with one case report showing a significant rise in INR—the measure of how thin your blood is—after papain supplementation. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain carries Moderate risk with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners and drugs that prevent clots), as it may boost bleeding risk. There's one case of minor bruising reported with bromelain and naproxen together.
It also carries a Minor interaction with tetracycline antibiotics, which bromelain may theoretically help your body absorb more of—though a study in healthy adults found no difference in blood levels.
Protease, Lactase, and Lipase show no interactions in our data. We could not check Amylase and Cellulase because we hold no monographs for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 141 individual medications. Even if you're not on one of these specific drugs, use the medication checker on this page with your exact prescriptions before you start.

For each ingredient in Digest Assure with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
